Youth Girls Tour to Devon
Battersea Ironsides embarked on the their first ‘Girls Only’ rugby tour to Exmouth, Devon over the weekend of 26th to 28th April.
Here is what coach, Steve Cockle, had to say about the tour.
‘Everyone looked great kitted out in their tour hoodies (thank you to our Sponsors) en route to our destination. The tour party consisted of U12 and U14 players, coaches and parents totalling 65 tourists!
Friday evening was all about team and group bonding before some fun and games, of the non rugby variety early Saturday morning, at the local water sports park.
In the afternoon, we headed to play our first match against Exeter Saracens, who were a fantastic bunch.
The U12’s managed to get a good win In a competitive see saw game with Etta , Freya, Elizabeth and Holly particularly playing well
The U14’s played well especially in the second half against strong opposition. Star player Daisy Campbell scored a great try and so nearly another. Flo & Molly offered plenty of go forward and Libby & Navea both played a great game.
On the second day of the tour, we all headed to Teignmouth RFC for our final match.
The U12’s played first on the main pitch and played very well with a clear victory. Kaden, Freya, Lilly & Gaby all had very strong games. The team were very well led by star player and captain Trixie!
Once again the U14’s played with a tremendous spirit against a strong Teignmouth side. Although Irons ended up coming second on the day, there were many strong performances, once again by Daisy and also from Freya, Mia and Sophie.
For many in the group it was their first ever rugby tour and we are all delighted with how well everyone got on and came together in the spirit of rugby. Here’s to plenty more to come!’
